Growth Needs: Creativity
While only a few people (such as a Beethoven or an Edison) are usually labeled as a "creative genius," millions of people have created millions of new things which have been incorporated into our civilization. Creativity isn't limited to a few people, or a few areas such as the fine arts: the essence of creativity is making something new. Many people need to feel that their work is creative, useful, important, significant, unique. Many ads, however, do tend to separate our normal work life, and restrict "creativity" to words and images associated with the fine arts, or with pre-packaged goods and entertainments which sell the illusion of creativity. Audience-centered ads try to associate the product with pleasant emotional feelings of "good things" already liked by the intended audience. Such feel- good ads are often not logical or true, but can be very effective. |
