Basic Needs: SurroundingsPeople have an absolute need for an "air bubble" with adequate oxygen, within certain temperature ranges. We seldom notice our surroundings or environment until a threat appears, usually extremely hot or cold weather. Americans take for granted that their homes and stores will be heated in cold weather and cooled in hot weather. But, most people on earth today still do not have such comforts. More recently, we've been threatened with
air pollution (smog, second-hand smoking, allergies, sick buildings,
ozone alerts, chemical and biological weapons) and radiation. Audience-centered ads try to associate the product with pleasant emotional feelings of "good things" already liked by the intended audience. Such feel- good ads are often not logical or true, but can be very effective.
