The Donald and Helen Morrison Endowed Scholarship in Business

*Amount of Award: up to $1,000 each for two Mr. and Mrs. Morrison endowed this scholarship to recognize talented and motivated students who wish to complete a degree in business in preparation for an entrepreneurial career. A successful businessman in the south suburban area for many years, Mr. Morrison wants to help students get the education that will enable them to take a leadership role in the business community.

Eligibility (Documentation of requirements is to accompany application)

There are no geographical, age, gender nor GPA restrictions, though the student must be in good academic standing
Must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of Illinois
Financial need is not a criterion
Student must be enrolled at GSU in a major which will prepare him/her to assume an entrepreneurial role in business or industry.

Applications are accepted from May 15 through July 31

Students may nominate themselves or be recommended in a letter from the dean, division chair, or a faculty member; in the event of self-nomination, at least one letter of recommendation testifying to the student's commitment to and capability for entrepreneurship should be sent by a GSU faculty member or administrator
Applicants must submit a letter/essay of 500 to 1,000 words containing a bio, education and work experience, and reasons the committee should consider him/her for the award
All documentation is to be sent to the Director of Financial Aid Governors State University University Park, IL 60466

Selection

Applications and letters will be submitted to the Selection Committee as designated by Mr. and Mrs. Morrison. The committee is to send the director of GSU's Office of Financial Aid, in writing, the names and bios of the winners in time for the awards to be announced by September 1.

*Amount may vary somewhat based on current earnings and addition, if any, to principal.
