Annie L. Lawrence Scholarship for Students of Nursing and Health Sciences

*Amount of Award: $500

Dr. Annie Lawrence taught nursing in the College of Health Professions for many years.Respected and admired by her colleagues, loved by the countless students she taught and counseled, she has been deeply devoted to the university and its students.Upon her retirement in 1998, she endowed this award and wrote, "It is with a sense of awareness of students' need and my enjoyment of working at Governors State University that I place this scholarship in your trust."

Eligibility (Documentation of requirements is to accompany application)

Student must be enrolled or about to enroll for at least six credit hours, seeking a degree in GSU's College of Health Professions
Must be a citizen of the United States and a resident of Illinois
Financial need is not a factor
Undergraduate students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5; graduate students 3.0
The scholarship is to be awarded to students in these disciplines on the following schedule:Nursing - year 2000, Communication Disorders - year 2002, Occupational Therapy - year 2004, Physical Therapy - year 2006, then repeat beginning in 2008.

Applications will be accepted from May 15 through July 31

CHP faculty and administrators should solicit eligible students to apply; they may also send or attach a letter of recommendation; students who wish to be considered should advise program faculty.
Students must complete the scholarship application form and write an essay of 500 to 1000 words describing their commitment to a career in the health professions, their work experience and/or academic background, and a brief bio
Applications and essays are to be submitted to the Director of Financial Aid.

Selection

The selection committee will include a program faculty member and a representative of the GSU Foundation to screen applications and select a finalist, who will be named by September 1.

*Amount may vary somewhat based on current earnings and addition, if any, to principal.
