Manilow Scholarship for Students Who Achieve Intellectual Excellence

*Amount of Award: Tuition waiver for two trimesters - up to $1,000

In June of 1996 Mr. and Mrs. Manilow established these scholarships to provide a quality education for students who have the ability and drive to achieve intellectual excellence. They are particularly interested in the disciplines of economic development and health, but will offer the awards to "students in any field who demonstrate intellectual excellence."

Eligibility (Documentation of requirements is to accompany application)

  1. Student must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of Illinois

  2. Must be enrolled for a minimum of six credit hours

  3.  Must have a GPA of 3.5 or better (on a 4.0 scale)

  4. Must demonstrate the determination to complete all requirements for a degree program and indicate how that degree will benefit his/her career

  5. Although financial need is not a criterion, it will be given consideration in the event of equally qualified candidates for the award(s).

Applications are accepted from May 15 through July 31

  1. The application form is to be submitted with a letter/essay of 500 to 1,000 words containing a brief bio and describing the student's educational and employment history, accomplishments which support his/her candidacy, and career goals.

  2. A letter(s) of recommendation from GSU faculty or administration may accompany the application or be sent under separate cover.

  3. Application form and other required material are to be sent to GSU's Director of Financial Aid.

Selection

The selection committee, consisting of the Manilows and representatives from the Office of Financial Aid, the GSU Foundation, and the applicants' colleges, will review all applications. The committee chair will notify the Director of Financial Aid of the winner(s) in time for the award(s) to be announced by September 1.

*Amount and number may vary based on current earnings and any addition to principal.
