Monsignor Ignatius D. McDermott Endowed Scholarship *Amount of Award: up to $1,000 depending on hours enrolled Monsignor Ignatius McDermott, for decades a priest, staff member at Maryville Academy, leader at the Chicago Archdiocese's Catholic Charities, founding force of the Haymarket House, creator of both the Central States Institute of Addiction and Intervention Instruction Inc., has dedicated his life to helping others. In keeping with his primary concern for substance abuse treatment, he oversees programs the restoration of good physical and mental health, health education, criminal justice, court related rehabilitative confinement and mandated services, gambling and domestic violence assessment and counseling.This scholarship is offered to students who seek to contribute to the field of addiction and recovery. Applications are accepted May 15 through July 31
Selection A committee chaired by GSU Trustee Bobbie Peterson or her designee, with representatives from the Development Office, Financial Aid, and the College of Health Professions will screen applications and select the winner.The director of the Office of Financial Aid will announce the winner(s) by September 1. *Amount may vary based on current earnings and addition, if any, to principal.
