Belonging Needs: Intimacy

A close, intimate relationship with another person is another common human desire. We seek to a void isolation and loneliness. We seek a genuine love without fear of rejection.

Frequently, such ideal intimacy is linked with the ideals of marriage, but not all marriages or other sexual relationships are so intimate. Perhaps the idea of a "best friend" might be closer to this ideal of intimacy.

True intimacy is rare in any human situation. But, ads which promise intimacy are common because they touch on such deep human desires. Visuals which set the mood, tone, or atmosphere are very important.

Audience-centered ads try to associate the product with pleasant emotional feelings of "good things" already liked by the intended audience. Such feel- good ads are often not logical or true, but can be very effective.
