Reliability

Reliability refers to those words and images which emphasize the predictability and sameness of a product or service.

Such reliability can relate either to time (same results from repeated use) or to space (same qualities in all the parts).

Most brand names and franchises use some reliability slogans ("You can be sure if it's Westinghouse." "You expect more from Standard and you get it." "The best surprise is no surprise at all."-- Holiday Inn).

Many Americans traveling away from home are likely to eat at McDonalds, drink Cokes, and stay at Holiday inns because of this predictability of the quality of these products and services.

Product-centered ads make claims and promises to stress the good qualities of the product: explicitly said in words, or implicitly suggested using words and images
