Scarcity

Scarcity refers to those words and images which emphasize that which is rare, infrequent, or in limited supply.

Scarcity is often clustered with an urgency appeal: "Hurry... only a few left."

Collections. Although genuine scarcity might relate to only a few basic needs (such as food, air, shelter), many ads in an affluent society appeal to a common human desire to collect trinkets and treasures (coins, stamps, dishes, paintings).

Obviously, some things are rare and uncommon. However, ads in the mass media are not likely to feature them. More commonly, millions of mass-produced "collectors items" are sold on TV.

Product-centered ads make claims and promises to stress the good qualities of the product: explicitly said in words, or implicitly suggested using words and images
