THIMBLES, at  940 S. State St. in Lockport, Il.  It is located in a vintage building that used to be a dry goods store, then was a hardware store and is now a quilt shop.  The store has beautiful tin ceilings, and wood shelves line the walls with beautiful fabrics.  They have a wonderful display of books and patterns for sale.  They do beautiful machine quilting, with many samples of their work.  They also have women who hand quilt for them.  And, of course, they do workshops. Hours M,T,W,F 10-5; Tr. 10-7, Sat. 10-4. Closed Sunday.

Knitted version #1
Use two size 8 and size 6 needles. Cast on 40 stitches.
ï Pattern: Knit one row, purl one row, knit one row. Repeat
   (102 rows with #6 needles, 8 rows with #8 needle)  Bind off.
ï  With yarn needle, draw one long edge of knitting together. Sew short edges together and
   add pom-pom on top.

Knitted - version #2
Use two size 7 needles. Cast on 78 stitches.
ï  Knit 3, purl 3 for 5 inches.
To shape top:
ï Row 1 - Knit 1, knit 2 together, purl 1, purl 2 together,   repeat across the row.
ï Row 2 -  Knit and purl across in ribbing pattern.
ï Row 3 - Knit 2 together, purl 2, knit 2 together, purl 2   across.
ï Row 4 - Knit and purl across in ribbing pattern.
ï Row 5 - Knit 1, purl 2 together across.
ï Row 6 - Knit and purl across
ï Gather stitches and sew seam. Add pom-pom on top.

Crocheted
Use 3 ply baby yarn and a ìGî crochet hook.
Chain 24, turn.
ï Single crochet in each chain starting with second chain from hook, 23 stitches made. Chain 1, turn, sc (single crochet) in each stitch across, always picking up back part of stitch to make a rib effect. When piece measures about 10 1/2 ì long and at least 5 1/2 inches wide, slip stitch together.  Gather edge together to make top.
Approximate size 6î long and 10î around.
